Totally Spaced Out

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America from Mexico to Canada. This year, the metro Detroit area will not be in the direct line of the eclipse, but we will still see an almost complete eclipse. Starting around 2:07 PM, the moon will begin to block the sun from our view, and around 3:13 PM we will see up to a 98.9% eclipse. Check out this blog for more information. To celebrate this special occasion, the Canton Public Library has a lot of fun planned!

On April 6, 2024 we will be hosting a solar eclipse-themed STEAM for Everyone program. All ages and abilities are welcome to join us. Eclipse glasses will be handed out at this event, while supplies last.

Our wonderful librarians have also created some fun at-home activities to do on your own. Follow along with this space-themed storytime, create your own solar eclipse pinhole viewer, or enjoy a special Oreo eclipse snack with our beloved resident bear, Thorndyke.

Finally, check out this upper elementary booklist full of amazing nonfiction books that your kiddos can read on their own or you can work through together.
