Library Services FAQs

  • General Questions

There's a good chance you're already receiving one of Canton Public Library's email newsletters. News and Events is emailed monthly to everyone with a library account that contains an email address (unless you've unsubscribed). If you're not getting this newsletter and would like to, first check your spam/junk email folder. If it's not there, you can sign up here

We also offer three other email newsletters to match more specialized interests of our patrons:

    • All About Books is, well, all about books. It's geared toward--you guessed it--people who like to read.
    • Connect Your Way newsletter gives you timely information and tips about our digital media offerings, including e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines, online databases, and streaming movies and music.
    • Raising Readers is designed for parents, teachers and caretakers of budding readers.
    • Connecting Canton features some of the good things happening in Canton and the region including events, spotlights on local organizations and fun things to do.

Sign up for any or all of these email newsletters, change your email preferences, or unsubscribe at any time here. Be sure to click on the Save Preferences button at the bottom of the page.

Please note: Patrons must be 13 in order to receive email newsletters. Patrons under 13 will only receive circulation notices, such as due date reminders.

Yes, the library regularly interacts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We often post about Canton happenings, special events, building status, library news, photos of cats, and other engaging content. We'd love for you to be our social media friend.

We love to make recommendations! CPL staff regularly create suggested lists that are available for viewing on the website and through the catalog. These carefully curated Staff Lists span many interests and ages, and are intended to help you find your next favorite thing. We create new lists based on popular literature, current events and holidays, new additions to our collection, and more.

You'll know a list has been created by staff if it says "Staff List" at the top.

You are also welcome to make and share your own lists. Any list you share will say “Community-created list.” You can also make lists and keep them private if you prefer.

No, but you can set up a notary appointment nearby at the Township Building or find a notary at the UPS Store.

Yes! During the school year we have Family Storytime for ages 0 - 5, Baby Storytime for ages 0 – 24 months, and Preschool Storytime for ages 3 ½ - 5. In the Summer we have Wings of Wonder Storytimes for ages 0-5. Some storytimes are drop-in, and others require registration.

Check out our Programs page to find upcoming storytimes and more information. If no sessions are listed, there are currently no open sessions.

For homework and study assistance for all ages, the library offers HelpNow through Brainfuse, a live, online tutoring service accessible with a CPL library card. For further homework or skill-building assistance, explore our Research and Learn page.

For one-on-one tutoring in-person, you can frequently find tutors who advertise on our lobby bulletin board. Canton Public Library does not endorse or track these tutors. You are welcome to meet with your own tutor here in the library.

National Honor Society Tutors are typically available in the library on a seasonal basis. Check our Program page for current information. If no sessions are listed, this is not currently being offered.

Donated materials may be placed in the brown wooden structure behind the building. Your donation goes to the Secondhand Prose Bookstore, run by the Friends of the Library.

The Friends' Donate page has more information about what we do and don't accept.

The best way to learn about the events, books, and other things you love from CPL is to sign up for our e-mail newsletters.

There is also a listing of upcoming events on the CPL homepage and a filterable list on the Programs page

In the library, we display upcoming events on the screen in the Self Service Center, list events on the whiteboard in the Children's Library, and are happy to answer questions at the Information Desk.

We have four vending machines in the lobby area - two with snacks, two with drinks - all of which accept debit, credit or cash.

You are also welcome to bring in food, or order food delivered to the library while you are here. Cooking or preparation of food is not permissible.

If you order food, ask your delivery person to meet you at the front lobby. We cannot receive or hold delivered food at the desk.
