How to Create a Booklist

Canton Public Library's website allows users to create lists of books or other materials for personal reference or to share with others. Here are some basic instructions on using this feature.

  1. Click the blue "Log In / My CPL" dropdown button near the upper right corner of the website. You will use your 14 digit library card barcode number and your 8 digit PIN to log in. If it is your first time logging in, you will have to go through a few steps to register your preferences on the account, including the creation of a unique username.
  2. Once logged in, you should see your username in the same spot that originally said "Log In / My CPL." Click that blue dropdown button again and look for "Lists" about halfway down the menu under "My Collections."
  3. Click on the blue "Create a New List" button.
  4. You'll now have two options: "Guides and Recommendations" or "If You Liked..."
    • "Guides and Recommendations" allows you to add any items to a list. You can select a list type, fill in a title, and add a description.
    • "If You Liked..." allows you to select one specific item and then add similar items to the list.
  5. Once you choose a list format, it's as simple as clicking on the big blue button that says "+ Add to List." This will open a search bar. Type in the name of a book, movie, etc. and it will show up if it is in the CPL collection. Some titles may have multiple formats, such as streaming online or an audiobook format, so be sure to select the one you want. Click the "+ Add" button to the right. This will take you back to the list.
  6. Continue to use the "+ Add to List" button to select more items. You will see a message that says "you must add at least 4 items to your list before it can be published and shared" until you've selected this minimum amount.
  7. Once you've added four or more items to your list, click on the "Finished Editing..." button to the upper right.
  8. You will asked to choose the list's visibility. If you choose "Everyone," your list could potentially be seen by library users throughout the world. You can also choose "People in a Specific Location," such as only other CPL library users. The choice is yours.
  9. Once you have selected who can see your list, click "Publish." Your list is now available to view and share at your leisure.
