Would you like to take the kids to see Jim Gill live at the Village Theater on June 24 at 11:00AM? You can enter to win 5 tickets on our Facebook page or through Twitter. Just post your family's favorite Jim Gill songs or tweet them to @CantonLibrary and we'll draw a name from the entries.

The fine print: One post per user name counts in the drawing but you can list as many favorites as you'd like. Posts must be made by noon on June 22. The winners will be posted on our Facebook page and listed on our website, or call the Children's Department at (734) 397-0999, option #5, for results.

Join Us For Some Rainbow Magic

On Tuesday, June 29th at 2:00PM, children in Kindergarten through Second Grade can break out the fairy wands and sparkles and help us celebrate one of our very favorite book series. Registration is required and begins on Tuesday, June 15th.

Caregivers Need Care, Too!

Are you, or do you know someone who is taking care of an elder or ailing family member?

Schoolcraft College has joined forces with AARP to offer a free seminar, Taking Care of the Caregiver. At this free seminar presented by an AARP speaker, attendees will gain knowledge, discover valuable resources and tools, and meet people in similar situations. The free, one-day seminar will take place on June 24th from 9:00-11:00AM in the VisTaTech Center on the main campus in Livonia. Registration is required. Canton Seniors Book Discussion: Fall 2010

We've moved! Beginning with the Canton Seniors Book Group's Wednesday, November 17 meeting, the group will meet at the Canton Public Library in Group Study Room A, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Copies of THE RED TENT by Anita Diamant are available at the library, see an Adult Reference Librarian to pick up your copy.

Jim Gill in Concert

Jim Gill is coming to the Cherry Hill Theater on Thursday, June 24th, brought to you by Canton Public Library in partnership with the Cherry Hill Village Theater.

Does your family love to listen to the energetic rhythms of Jim Gill? Here’s your chance to experience the one-of-a-kind participation concert that has made Jim a family favorite.
  • Tickets will be distributed by lottery
  • To apply for tickets, log into your patron record at catalog.cantonpl.org starting Monday, May 10 at 9:00AM and continuing through Sunday, June 6 at 6:00PM (Ticket information will be at the bottom of your patron record)
  • Lottery winners will be notified and will be able to pick up their tickets at the Children's Desk from Monday, June 7 through Wednesday, June 16 at 9:00PM
  • Any unclaimed tickets will be put back into the lottery and redistributed before the concert

Strategies of Success Seminar for June

The Strategies of Success (SOS) series for business wraps up for the summer with "Changing With the Times", held June 8th at the Summit on the Park from 7:30-9:00AM. Register by calling or emailing the Canton Chamber of Commerce at (734) 453-4040 or admin@cantonchamber.com.

Someone Like Me

Former area resident, John Quinn, shares his amazing story of his challenge and triumph over Cerebral Palsy. Quinn, through astounding determination, was able to hide his disability and become a high-ranking officer in the U.S. Navy. Are you a 4-9 year old superhero? Then you won't want to miss our next Target grant program, on Tues. June 8, 7:00-8:00PM, Who wants to be a superhero? Registration begins May 25. Wear your best superhero costume and get ready for action packed stories, games, activities and even a snack worthy of a superhero! Each super family receives their own heroic book to keep!

Grandparent Fun

Attention Grandparents: Bring your grandchildren to Grandparent Fun on Wednesday, June 2 at 10:00AM. This is a 45 minute program that involves 10-15 minutes of stories and songs followed by crafting and play, just for you and your grandchildren! Get out of the house and meet other grandparents who watch their grandchildren on a regular basis, or just take advantage of a chance to spend some time with your favorite kids.

"Exploritas" program postponed

The program "Exploritas" that had been scheduled from 7:00-8:00PM on May 27th 2010 had to be postponed at this time due to the ill health of the presenter.

Wayne State's TechTown, Detroit's research and technology park, is hosting FastTrac to the Future, a two day conference May 25th and 26th, for aspiring entrepreneurs. Free Blood Pressure Screening

Age Strong! Live Strong!
Blood pressure screening is available on the 3rd Monday of each month, 1:00-3:00PM in the Parkview Room of the Summit. This free service is provided by the Oakwood Healthcare System and sponsored by the Canton Seniors Center. No appointments are necessary.
