It’s the middle of summer, and you suddenly find yourself with a bit of free time and no plans. What are you going to do? We have some great suggestions for ways to stave off the boredom.
Quick Trips
- When in doubt, go to the library! If you think things quiet down at the library during the summer, you’d be incorrect. We celebrate 62 Days of Summer with activities, programs, events and pompoms. 62 Days of Summer 2025 runs from June 16 through August 16.
- Summer festivals are abound in Canton. Concerts & Cuisine, Tuesdays are Terrific and Liberty Fest are just a few of the fun community events you can look forward to. To find out what other festivals you can attend, check the Community & Special Events calendar on the Canton Leisure Services website.
- There's nothing like fresh, local produce to spruce up your summer snacks. Stop by the Canton Farmer’s Market to enjoy some live music, cooking demos, and fresh foods from your local farmers.
- Canton has a plethora of parks, trails and nature areas for your enjoyment. Go for a walk or a bike on one of the scenic trails, and then maybe stop for a picnic lunch at a park or nature area.
Summer Experiences
- If you’re looking for a more regularly scheduled form of fun with a touch of learning, take a look at the assortment of summer camps and classes that are offered by Canton Leisure Services. From youth gymnastics to adult swimming to senior billiards, there’s something for everyone. You can see all that your community has to offer through the Discover magazine or by visiting their website.
- Want to get out and about, but don’t want to deal with the summer heat? Visit one of the dozens of museums in Southeast Michigan that are just a quick drive away. You’ll beat the summer heat and have a fun and educational experience. Don’t forget your Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) for discounted entry.
- Want to spend some time communing with nature? New to camping or need to brush up on your outdoors skills? Check our Camping for Everyone blog for a variety of resources. Then use a Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) to get access to various state and Metroparks for a day of fun and one night of camping. Start on the MAP home page and select Canton Public Library and your search radius, and then click Search. On the search results page, open the filter options and select Camping and then click Apply.
- Speaking of the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP), are you sensing a theme here? You can do way more than just visit museums and parks with MAP. You can get discount tickets to Village Theater at Cherry Hill, Michigan Philharmonic, LEGOland Discovery Center, USA Hockey and so much more.
