In honor of Earth Day, now is a good time to review recycling and waste disposal practices to reduce waste sent to landfills.
Household Items
Canton Township makes it easy to recycle plastics, glass, paper, cardboard and more with rolling carts for single-stream curbside recycling. Check out this list to ensure everything you recycle is accepted by this Automated Recycling service.
The township also partners with Simple Recycling, a for-profit recycler, for free pickup of clothing, accessories and small usable household discards. Visit their FAQ page to see a list of acceptable items and learn how to schedule a pickup.
Hazardous Materials
To protect our natural environment, it's important to dispose of hazardous waste safely. Canton Township has a Hazardous Waste Round-up in September and accepts a limited amount of hazardous waste at Canton Clean-up and Waste Recycling events throughout the year. The 2025 clean-up schedule is posted on the Canton Township website.
Yard Waste
Many people start thinking about and working on their lawns and gardens this time of year. Yard waste pickup is available as part of curbside waste removal services from April through mid-December. The township's website offers suggestions and support for environmentally beneficial lawn care and clean-up, such as hand-fulling or raking weeds, or increasing the height of your mower.
