Frozen characters and Angry Birds encourage kids to learn coding!

Frozen on CODE.orgFrozen's Anna and Elsa lend a hand in teaching children how to code!

Join CODE.org in allowing every student the opportunity to learn about computer science and coding.
 

Angry birds is also an option for older kids or adults.

There is an initiative to complete one hour of free coding lessons in order to raise the level of somputer science fluency for kids. There is a push to teach computer science in the classroom to ensure that children are getting the best chance possible to succeed. Please visit CODE.org to sign up and try a lesson today!

Starfish Family Services: Baby Moves

On Tuesday, December 16 from 6:30-8:30 PM, the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Baby Moves: Movement Activities for Infants and Toddlers. Participants will explore the importance of purposeful movement activities for infants and their impact on development. Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.

Raja Yoga Healing Meditation

Raja Yoga Meditation helps you reach a deeper understanding of yourself, your intrinsic positive qualities and your innate value. There is beauty in all of us and through meditation the inner beauty not only is revealed to the self, but also to the people around us. On Saturday, December 27 from 4:00-5:45PM, join practitioners from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University to explore these universal concepts and encourage your inner spiritual development toward a fresh perspective on values such as justice, freedom, respect and love. Sessions will be interactive and experiential, where your tools for the inward journey will be explored and shared.

What We're Reading: November, 2014

An event in autumn by Henning Mankell ; translated from the Swedish by Laurie Thompson.  Fans of Mankell's Swedish detective, Kurt Wallander, will enjoy this story set just before Wallander's final case.

Special Needs Storytime: Count Me In

This is a sensory-friendly storytime filled with stories, songs, and sign language especially designed for children with developmental delays and disabilities. This program has been funded through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant.

Fine Art for Kids: Drawing & Coloring

Local fine artist Amarjeet Kapoor will teach, step by step, how to improve your drawing skills and uncover your hidden artistic talent. You will begin by sketching the basic shapes and lines and then will combine these pieces to create a more realistic drawing. You will also apply coloring and shading to make it a finished piece of art. This class is designed for kids aged 5-8 years old.  Join us on Saturday, Nov 1 from 2:00-3:00 PM in the Purple Room.  Registration is required and begins on October 18.

Astute Artistry: Halloween Make-up How-to

Have you ever wanted to look like a zombie?  How about a witch or a princess? What about a beautiful Mexican sugar skull?  Join the highly skilled professionals from Astute Artistry Studios as they help you prepare for Halloween and beyond!  On Saturday, October 25 from 12:30-3:00 PM participants will learn the ins and outs of many different kinds of make up application.  Bring your creativity! This program is designed for patrons aged 10 through adults.  Registration is required and begins on September 25

Starfish Family Services: Planning with Children

On Tuesday, October 28 from 6:30-8:30 PM, the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Planning with Children. Participants will learn the benefits of planning with children and create planning props to use during the planning process.  Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.
