The Wayne County Regional Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped introduces the Brown Bag Book Club. Bring your lunch and the Library will provide snacks, beverages, and dessert. Sometimes I wanted to be really bad so I could visit Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle’s upside-down house, hunt for treasure and get cured by super-smart animals. So celebrate Betty MacDonald’s birthday by reading about some really naughty kids. The Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series and the Mary Poppins stories offer a wealth of mischief. Max from Where the Wild Things Are is another naughty child who will be coming to the big screen in the fall.

Donalyn Miller, Teacher Magazine blogger and author, couldn't find a book that demonstrated her love for reading to her students so she decided to write one herself. It's a shame we aren't born with the desire to love books. We have to discover the world of books on our own, or from parents and teachers. Many of us have cherished childhood memories of visiting the library and happily leaving with an armful of books.

Our first new International Language books for 2009 are in Kannada. Just on the shelf today are cookbooks such as 150 vividha sihi tindigalu, poetry such as Akkana vachanagalu, and much more. This is only the first part of the books in Kannada we've purchased, so there are more on the way!

Did you know that Margaret Hillert, the author of more than 80 books for beginning readers, is a Michigan native? It's true! Margaret Hillert was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1920, and today lives in southeast Michigan.

You may have, since the movie just came to theaters March 6. But did you also read the Watchmen? Arguably one of the best graphic novels ever written, it gives you a new view on superheroes : the deconstruction of the superhero. If you don't normally read graphic novels, don't let that keep you away from this one! The story is rich, entertaining, and thought-provoking. It almost makes you want to throw on a costume and go off to fight crime yourself!
