"My Mitten" Drawing Contest

Starting July 1st, enter our "My Mitten" Drawing Contest and show us what you love about Michigan. It could be your favorite place, your favorite people who live in Michigan, or even your favorite Michigan "thing" (cherries, automobiles, whatever you love!). Last day to enter is July 26th, with artwork being displayed in the library July 30th - August 11th for voting (one vote per person per day).

Contest Rules

  1. Last day to enter: July 26th.
  2. Limit of one entry per person.
  3. Entries must be submitted on a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.
  4. Artwork must be your own. You may get inspiration from a book or online, but please do not copy someone else's art.
  5. Artwork will be displayed in the library from July 30th - August 11th, and voting will be done by you (one vote per person per day)!
  6. Prizes will be awarded in 5 different age categories: K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-10th, and 11th-12th grades.
  7. Winners will be announced August 17th at the End of CYS Party.
  8. All winners' entries, with consent, will be displayed on the CPL website.
  9. Last day to retrieve your submitted artwork will be August 31st.

Teen Animanga Club

Board Gaming League of Canton

Into board games like Settlers, Carcassonne, or Puerto Rico? Drop by Saturday, June 1 between Noon and 5:45 PM for our monthly Board Gaming League of Canton meeting. Play some of the hottest games and meet some new folks!

Summer Style Storytime

Do you LOVE storytime? Our well-loved Family Storytime will continue during Connect Your Summer, but with a Summertime Twist. We'll be enjoying storytimes once or twice a month in the great outdoors! Storytimes are designed for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver. Storytimes will be held in the tent behind the library. Rain location will be indoors. No registration required.

Family History Charm Bracelets

Parents, grandparents, and kids, 7-10, join us Saturday, July 20, 1:00-2:00 PM to make a beautiful family history charm bracelet. Design and decorate a unique charm for each member of your family out of Shrinky Dinks. Registration required.

Beginning Excel 2010

Learn to create a spreadsheet and manage a list with Microsoft Excel 2010.
Prerequisite: Mouse and keyboarding skills.

Oldies, but Goodies: Backyard Games

Join us for some old-fashioned backyard games! We'll be behind the library (weather permitting) so kids of all ages can come have some fun. Should we run into bad weather, we'll still have games in the Community Room, so stop by.

Dance Your Fanny Off

Hey all of you little folk, come to our library and get your dance on! This program is an open dance party for our littlest patrons to get movin' and groovin' with their grownups. This program is designed for new walkers up to 5 years old and is a great way to have some fun!

Knit Night

Join other handcrafters for an evening of sharing and learning. All ages and stages are welcome at this informal gathering on Monday, June 10 at 7:00 PM in the library Purple Room. Bring your own project, yarn and needles.

Six Little Ducks Storytime

Kids ages 3-5, with a caregiver, register online to join us for a fun duck-themed program with ducky stories, a simple craft and a tasty snack.

August Creatapillars

Are you a creative kid? This crafty program is tailored to kids who are 7 to 10 years old. Let your creative side flow in our program, Creatapillars. Our project for August will be crafty and summery. We will meet on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 7:00-7:45 PM. Registration begins Monday, July 29, 2013.

Movie Mondays: Geek Out with The Princess Bride

After you've spent your day celebrating the launch of Connect Your Summer 2013, have fun storming the castle with this family-friendly fractured fairy tale! We'll show the movie. We'll provide the popcorn. All we need is your love for dread pirates, fireswamp adventures, battles (of strength, agility and wit), rodents of unusual size and "twue wuv"!

And don't forget to stop by the Geek Out table during the CYS kickoff and complete a Nerd Knowledge quiz! Completed quizzes can be put into a drawing for summer movie passes from Goodrich Theaters. We'll select and announce the winner just before the movie starts! Join us in the Community Room on Monday, June 17 at 7:00 PM for the first in our Movie Mondays summer film series!

Summer Seed and Plant Exchange

Join us Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM for our Summer Seed and Plant Exchange. If you've got some extra flower or vegetable plants or seeds that just didn't make it into your garden, bring them along and trade them in for something new! Be sure to stay for our concurrent program on Soil Testing presented by MSU. No registration required.

It's Dino-Might!

Attention all dinosaur lovers in grades K - 3. Come to the library and design your very own dino, dig for dino bones, play dino bingo, and enjoy a dino delight.

Monday, July 29, we will CHOW DOWN with the CURTAINS UP. We'll start our day with a Parisian mouse who dreams of great food and end the evening with a song. You may bring pillows, snacks, even your own comfy lawn chairs if you like.

U-M Museum of Natural History - Fossils

Come join our friends from the U-M Museum of Natural History as we explore the secrets of Earth's history buried underground. On July 12 from 2:00-3:00 PM, we will learn about what fossils are, how they form and what they can teach us. We will even get to dig for our very own specimen!

The ApocOlympics - POSTPONED

This program has been POSTPONED until the fall...stay tuned!!!
First there was The Hunger Games, next there came Divergent, now the ApocOlympics! Test your wits, skills and precision against your peers in a duel to the death in the ApocOlympics. Okay, so not to the death, BUT the winner will get bragging rights AND win a cool prize. No experience is necessary. Teens join us Saturday, June 29 from 1:00-3:00 PM for a fun filled challenge. Registration opens May 29.

Scooby Snack and Snuggle

Scooby lovers ages 4-8, come join us for an evening hour of fun. Make a craft, stir up some super Scooby chow, then sit back and relax watching a Scooby flick in your PJs.
