Canton Public Library Named Michigan Top Workplace

Library Receives Award Two Years in a Row from Detroit Free Press

CANTON, MI—Canton Public Library has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2025 honor by Michigan Top Workplaces for the second year in a row. This list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by Energage LLC. The confidential survey uniquely measures the employee experience and its component themes.

Canton Public Library’s recognition reflects a steady commitment to serving the community with expertise and care. Staff take pride in providing dependable service, thoughtful guidance and a welcoming environment for patrons of all ages. That shared focus—meeting community needs and supporting one another’s work—continues to shape a positive, supportive workplace culture.

“When I first started here, people told me that it feels like a family,” said Kat Bounds, who has worked at the library for nearly five years as the Circulation Services department head. “And that’s true in the way people care about each other, support and back each other up.”

“Given how passionate our staff is about serving our community, it’s no surprise that they find the library a great place to work,” said library director Eva Davis. “When your personal values align with your workplace’s mission, it makes for a satisfying and rewarding career.”

Lauren Collinsworth, circulation assistant, appreciates that the library works hard to provide something for everyone and is responsive to the community's needs. “We reflect the cultural needs with foreign language materials and have resources for everyone. And we really help each other—you can ask questions and get help from any of our coworkers,” she commented.

“It’s so rewarding to come to work knowing I am supported and appreciated by my colleagues. Each of us has our own unique roles and skills, and we bring our talents together to work toward a common goal: to provide our patrons with an outstanding library experience,” shared Kaitlyn Minshall, library communications specialist and eight-year employee. “At CPL, I feel like I am making a real difference in my community.”

“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “That's something to be proud of. In today's market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard.”

The Canton Public Library serves the 98,000 residents of Canton, MI, with a 52,000-square-foot facility. It is the busiest single-branch library in Michigan, circulating over 1 million items annually.
