We all know the stereotype that librarians love cardigans, and we cannot say that it is completely unfounded. We here at CPL consider ourselves icons of cutting-edge library fashion and shamelessly love our cardigans.
All one must do in the staff area here is look to their right or left to see a cardigan draped across almost every office chair for quick access. We do not always wear them, but in a pinch, they will be there. There is something about the way they can be draped, dressed up or down, slipped on and off without needing to remove glasses or disturb a hairdo. They, like librarians, are functional, thoughtfully designed, and utilized by lovely people.
Below, we have featured several of our staff members who were delighted to share their favorite cardigans, along with some book recommendations and favorite quotes.
Amy is one of our Information Services managers and is showing off her navy blue cable knit zip-up cardigan. She recommends the recent title Run for the Hills by Kevin Wilson.
One of her favorite quotes: “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Attributed to Roger Caras

Deb is one of our Experiences Librarians and is wearing her blue loose-knit cardigan (more appropriate for warmer temperatures, as she put it) and an Elephant & Piggy shirt to match her book recommendation: I Am Going! by Mo Willems.
Her favorite quote is: “In three words, I can sum up everything I have learned about life. It goes on." – Robert Frost

Cherie is one of our Information Librarians and is wearing her favorite cardigan. We decided its colorway was oatmeal. She recommends Mismatched by Anne Camlin.
One of her favorite quotes: “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” – T.S. Eliot

Kat V. is our newest Information Services intern. She is wearing a green cable-knit cardigan with a shawl collar. She is currently reading Babel by R.F. Kuang, which is not pictured, because our copies were all checked out!
She shared her favorite quote from Babel: “Translation means doing violence upon the original, means warping and distorting it for foreign, unintended eyes. So then, where does that leave us? How can we conclude, except by acknowledging that an act of translation is then necessarily always an act of betrayal?” – R.F. Kuang

Lisa B. is one of our Information Librarians and is wearing a genuine CPL cardigan, which was passed on to her by another employee. She recommends The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab.

Stacey is one of our Information Librarians and is wearing a cardigan with a design inspired by the manga series she is holding, Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyūga.

Madelynn is one of our Experiences Librarians and is wearing an orange cardigan with dog motifs embroidered on it. Her book recommendation is the abstract and intriguing Opposites Abstract by Mo Willems.
A favorite quote:
“Everything that anyone would ever look for is usually where they find it.” – Margaret Wise Brown

Erin S. is one of our Experiences Librarians and is wearing a buttonless textured and drapey cardigan. She recommends Sisters in the Wind by Angeline Boulley.
A favorite quote:
“Kindness is something that seems small... but it’s like tossing a pebble into a pond and the ripples reach further than you thought.” – Angela Boulley, Firekeeper’s Daughter

Tony is one of our Experiences Librarians and is wearing a genuine vintage cardigan that was passed down to him from his great-grandfather, fitted with leather elbow patches and wooden buttons. He is currently reading The Maid by Nita Prose for his book club.

Michelle is one of our Experiences Librarians and is wearing her lighthouse cardigan covered in Michigan lighthouses. Her thematically appropriate recommendation is Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall.
One of her favorite quotes:
“There’s one other thing that I think every person or frog needs to be creative: friends. For me, the best part of creativity is collaborating with friends and colleagues. Mine happen to be bears, pigs, rats, and penguins, but you go with what works for you.” – Kermit the Frog
