There are many reasons you might not want to take your kids trick-or-treating. Maybe you have a child with sensory sensitivities. Maybe weather or safety is a concern. Or maybe you just want to do something different this year. Whatever your reason, the Canton area has plenty of fun alternatives you and your family can experience this year.
You don’t even have to wait until Halloween to have fun. Many of these alternatives take place earlier in October 2025. Here are some suggestions:
Canton Trick or Treat Story Trail
Saturday, October 4, from 1:00-4:00 PM
Take your kids on a journey that tells a tale while giving you treats. Come dressed in costume and walk along a trail through Heritage Park. Visit 20 stops along the way to grab your treats and experience a story fit for children of all ages. Pre-registration is required. Admission is $13 for residents, $16 for nonresidents, and adults are free if not collecting treats.
Pumpkins and Pups
Sunday, October 12, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM
Dress up with your pup and come to the Canton Dog Park to enter the costume contest. There will be live entertainment, pet-related giveaways and booths to buy pet merchandise from local businesses. Admission is free; pre-registration is not required.
Pumpkin Palooza
Sunday, October 19, from 11:30 AM-2:30 PM
Wear your costume and grab your treat bag for a Halloween stroll through closed-off streets in Downtown Plymouth. You'll find fun, entertainment and plenty of treats!
Kids' Halloween Stroll at the Village Arts Factory
Saturday, October 25, from 4:00-8:00 PM
The Village Arts Factory event features games, music, art, treats, decorations and, of course, costumes. It is geared towards children 12 and under, so decorations will be festive, not scary. Children stroll from studio to studio to enjoy interactive stations. Pre-registration is required. Admission is $5; adults are free if not collecting treats.
Old Village Spooky Halloween Block Party
Sunday, October 26, from noon to 4:00 PM
Come to Plymouth Old Village for a block party event with family-friendly activities, games, food and costume fun. Admission is free; pre-registration is not required.
Detroit Zoo Boo
October 4-5, 10-12, 17-19 and 24-26, from 4:00-9:30 PM
If you don’t mind driving a little farther, the Detroit Zoo Boo is fun for all ages. Kids can trick or treat as they go through the zoo while enjoying family-friendly entertainment, character meet-and-greets and more. As the sun sets, the zoo begins to light up with glowing “fun-kins” and elaborate illuminated décor. Admission is $27 at the door, or $21 to $25 if purchased in advance.
Trunk-or-Treat Events
Many community churches and organizations hold special trunk-or-treat events. People gather in the parking lot, decorate their cars and hand out treats. Kids show up in costume and go from car to car collecting treats in a safe, controlled environment.
Check your local area churches, homeowner associations, and even some businesses, like Zap Zone, to see when they are holding their events. For example, Sunflower Village Homes Association will have trunk-or-treating in the Hanford parking lot on Saturday, October 11, from 1:00-2:30 PM, and Faith Baptist Church of Canton will have trunk-or-treating on Friday, October 24, from 6:00-7:30 PM.
Other Options
For outdoor holiday fun, there are plenty of local pumpkin patches, farms and cider mills offering Halloween activities for the kids. Check out one of your favorites and see what they have in store.
Whatever you do, enjoy the season with your family and have a safe, happy Halloween!
