Storytime: Birds

Did you miss storytime? Perhaps it is just one of those days when you need a boost with your little ones. Fret not. We have gathered some storytime resources for you at home, thanks to Youth Librarian Ms. Marianne. Follow our steps below or mix and match for the ultimate storytime experience.

Today’s Theme: Birds

1. Energize with a Song

Start your storytime by listening to Librarian Marianne sing “Wake Up Feet”.

2. Activity: Make a Puppet and Recite a Rhyme

Download this printable to make your own bird puppets. Color the birds, cut them out (with an adult’s help), and attach a craft stick to the back of each one. Taping a pencil to the back is also a great idea if you don't have any popsicle sticks or craft sticks on hand. Then, follow along with Librarian Marianne as she recites “Two Little Blackbirds”.

3. Read a Book About Birds

We have a wide selection of picture storybooks featuring birds of all types. In the list of titles below, you’ll find stories with ducks, sparrows, geese, chickens, ostriches, owls and more. When you’re done reading, head out to your backyard or go for a walk around the neighborhood to look for birds.

4. Sing a Goodbye Song

See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to Skinnamarink.
