Summary
On a cold December day in a northern Ontario countryside, a strange woman appears on the doorstep of the farmhouse that former detective Hugh Mercer is renting, warning him that a local woman is about to vanish under mysterious circumstances. Then, as quickly as she appeared, the stranger was gone.
When her dire predictions become reality, all the witnesses have different accounts of the event, and Mercer begins to realize that there is more to the easy-going northern town than he’d realized.
She recommends it because...
“I liked this book because it kept me guessing,” says Erin. “I like mysteries with twists and turns, and this one was unique to other ‘whodunnits.’ The setting was also very well described; I felt like I was in a tiny Canadian town in the winter.”
Who might enjoy it?
Erin thinks that As We Forgive Others will appeal to fans of Megan Miranda, Wendy Heard or “anyone who likes a red herring in a book or an unreliable witness.” Then again, the setting alone might be enough for fans of winter. “If you really like getting blasted with cold air when you’re sitting in a café in winter, this is for you,” she says.
