Summary
Four friends—"the Liars"—spend each summer together on a family island, sharing laughter, secrets and even love. But one summer, Cadence suffers an accident that leaves her with migraines and memory loss. When she returns to the island two years later, things have changed, and the reason why is somewhere in her fractured memory. Secrets and lies eventually unravel to reveal a devastating truth.
She recommends it because...
"The story has a way of quietly sneaking up on you," says Deb. "It goes along, like a lazy summer with friends usually does, until you learn an unimaginable truth. I could imagine being in this idyllic place and spending my summer hanging out with fun friends. When the secret is slowly revealed, it's like a punch to the gut. It left me stunned. If I had more time, it would be one of the books I'd reread again and again. It's that good."
Who might enjoy it?
Teens (and adults) who like amnesia mysteries or unreliable narrators will find this book hard to put down. The TV adaptation premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 18, 2025.
