Read Newspapers Online

The Canton Public Library offers online access to a variety of newspapers. Some newspapers will require you to enter your Canton Public Library card number each day or every few days. Take advantage of the following online resources.

The New York Times – Get full access to the nation's "Newspaper of Record". Use your library card to activate a 24-hour full-access pass for NYtimes.com. You will need to log in to a new or existing NYtimes.com account when redeeming this pass.

The Wall Street Journal – Learn about breaking news from around the world as well as in-depth business and financial analysis. Use your library card to activate a three-day full-access pass for WSJ.com. You will need to log in to a new or existing WSJ.com account when redeeming this pass.

Access World News – Explore newspapers from the United States and worldwide. Includes same-day access to USA Today, opens a new window and the Detroit News, opens a new window. If you prefer using our Research & Learn subject index, select Newspapers & General Research and you can find the direct link to this resource, as well as links to several of the more popular newspaper titles it contains.

Canton Observer – Search digitized full-text articles dating from 1974 to 2022 (when they stopped print issues) or browse for particular issues. Brought to you by the Friends of the Canton Public Library and the Canton Observer.

Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal – Find digitized versions of print newspapers or links to online newspapers from a variety of sources. This portal includes papers held by the Clarke Historical Library and Michigan newspapers found in Chronicling America, a database maintained by the Library of Congress. In addition, the Library of Michigan has developed newspaper family histories that trace the connections between papers within a city.
