Reserve Your Study Space

Our online room reservation system can be an effective tool for patrons looking to have uninterrupted time to make appointments, meet with a tutor or get a group project done—to name a few possibilities.

Check out these tips to help you get the most out of your study room reservation.

Reservation Requirements

There are two major requirements for reserving a study room.

  1. You must have a Canton Public Library card; only Canton patrons—those who live, work, attend school in Canton or have purchased a card—can make reservations. Friends from elsewhere may join a reservation, but the CPL patron who made the reservation must be present.
  2. Each room has occupancy requirements, so make sure to note the minimum occupancy for a room when making a reservation. If, for instance, a patron shows up alone for a group room they reserved, their reservation may be canceled. Fortunately, we can help to make other arrangements, including finding other places around the library that might suit individual needs.

Reservations cannot be made for the immediate use of a room. This allows users who enter an unreserved room to know they have at least 2 hours to work without being displaced by a reservation.

Our reservation software allows you to book study room reservations in advance from a minimum of 2 hours to a maximum of 7 days (to the hour) in the future.

Reservations apply to only half of our study rooms, so patrons can still find the perfect spot regardless of whether they reserved in advance.

Reserving patrons must arrive within 15 minutes of their reservation time to claim the room; otherwise, it may be forfeited.

"I Just Need the Whiteboard"

This is a common draw to our group study rooms. If a patron would like a whiteboard but does not have a group, we can offer individual whiteboards from the Information Desks or one of the large movable whiteboards in the Adult Open Study area.

The booths in the Adult Open Study area and Co-Lab also have whiteboards on the wall next to them.

How do I know if a room is reserved?

To check whether a room is reserved, refer to the small digital panels on the wall outside the reservable rooms. They will update throughout the day to reflect any new or canceled reservations.

We can provide the most up-to-date information on reservations for that day at any Information Desk, so feel free to check with us as well.

Other Things to Know

Each room has small differences that may suit one patron's needs better than others.

Room 7, for instance, is a single-user room with solid walls and is adjacent to only one room. While it does have a glass door, it is still the most private of the single-user rooms, so those looking for that sort of ambiance for exam-taking may prefer it. Similarly, Group Study Rooms G and H have solid walls, while Room F has glass walls.

We have photos on our website of the various rooms, so users can consider these design choices before reserving a room.

Not sure how much time you will need for your reservation? There is no penalty for reserving up to two hours for each of the three reservations allowed in any 7-day period. When leaving early, please let us know so we can release the remaining reserved time and make the space available to other patrons.

There is quite a bit of nuance to the system, so if you have any other questions about the ins and outs of room reservations, check out our Study Room Guidelines, or feel free to call or stop by an Information Desk.
