Fall is a time for family outings to the local cider mills, orchards and farms. Everybody loves indulging in cider, donuts and everything apples – from pies to apple butter. You don't have to go far to enjoy that experience. There is a place, right in the neighborhood, that has been serving Canton and Plymouth for 48 years: the Plymouth Orchards & Cider Mill on Warren Road in Plymouth. Now through November 9, 2025, they are open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. It's a working organic orchard and farm offering award-winning apple cider, fresh donuts, jams, pie, over 16 varieties of organic apples and more.
But it's not all about the great eats and drinks. Like many of the area cider mills, they offer a wide variety of family-friendly events, including scenic wagon rides through the orchards, pumpkin picking in the pumpkin patch, friendly farm animals for the kids to pet, a hay bale climb for the younger kids, and live music on most weekends.
They also offer school and group tours that include fun facts and learning all about the apples, the bees, the trees and how they became an organic farm. Each tour is tailored to the group's age and includes a tractor ride through the orchards, as well as a sampling of apples, donuts, and cider.
Founded in 1977 by Mary Emmett on 60 acres of land, Plymouth Orchards & Cider Mill is a woman-owned, family business. She started with 5,000 apple trees featuring nine varieties of apples. In 1982, the former milk house was converted into a cider mill and started pressing apples into cider. In 2013, they began the process of becoming a fully organic farm. Now, besides apples and apple products, you can find organic blackberries, peaches, raspberries, strawberries, asparagus and some small grains like rye and malt when they are in season.
Also on the property, off Ann Arbor Road, is the Red Shed Market, where you can purchase all the same products you can get at the cider mill, available in one quick, convenient stop. It was renovated from a simple gravel floor shed in 2004 and now features a wrap-around porch and picnic tables, all with close-in, convenient parking.
So, before the snow starts falling and cider mills once again hibernate for the winter, take the time to visit one right here in the neighborhood, Plymouth Orchards & Cider Mill.
