The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day, a national celebration where readers can get free comic books and cheer on all things comic-y.
Comic books have captured our attention for nearly 100 years. While most people associate comics with superheroes like DC or Marvel, the stories told range from supernatural to “normal.” Popular TV shows and movies, like Stranger Things or Star Wars, have also been made into comics. The format’s stories are diverse and widely published. Last year, over 4,000 new comic book titles were released.
Here at the library, we will be celebrating with free comic books available for you to take home while supplies last, a Kirby craft, and an all-ages screening of The LEGO Batman Movie.
Take a look at a few other ways you can celebrate Free Comic Book Day in 2023.
