Caring for family is a profound responsibility. For many in the “sandwich generation,” those simultaneously supporting children, aging parents and other loved ones, this responsibility often feels like carrying three jobs at once. Caregivers in our community juggle appointments, advocacy, finances and daily care, all while trying to nurture their own lives.
Programs & Community Connections
The library is the perfect place for grandparents who care for grandchildren to spend time together.
With cozy reading corners, engaging storytimes, hands-on learning activities and a wide selection of books and e-media for every age, the library offers something both generations can enjoy. Grandparents will find helpful resources and community connections, while grandchildren can explore, learn and play in a safe and welcoming space.
Best of all, the library is free and open to all, making it a wonderful spot to bond, learn and create lasting memories.
The library is also a gateway to local organizations that specialize in supporting adults with cognitive disabilities and their caregivers. Library staff can also help locate and get contact information for local respite programs, social workers and peer support groups.
- Storytimes at the library occur in six-week sessions multiple times a year.
- Our Friends Adventure Club program is designed for adults with cognitive disabilities to enjoy creative and social experiences with peers.
- Check out our other programs or sign up for our newsletter to stay connected to what the library offers this season.
Do you just need a break? Caregivers are welcome to use library spaces for a much-needed pause, study time or personal enrichment.

Caring for the Caregiver
Finally, it is important to remember that caring for yourself is part of caring for your loved one. A few suggestions we highlight often:
- Join a support group, either online or in person, to connect with others who understand the caregiving journey.
- Explore hobbies or calming activities at the library, such as our monthly board gaming group, knit and crochet group, book clubs or a quiet reading corner.
- Borrow a wellness-themed book or guided meditation e-audiobook to encourage personal care. Check out local fitness opportunities in the community through Canton Township Programs or view activities at Summit on the Park.
