Create an Ocean Flashlight Craft

Hello, and summer greetings to you!

I am not sure about you, but I have been enjoying a very nice summer here at the library. I am looking forward to a trip to the beach to see my friends. Since I have to wait longer, and because the beach is a bit too far for a fuzzy bear to walk to all alone, I decided to make this snazzy ocean craft to hold me over. I had so much fun making this that I wanted to share it with you, too!

Bear hugs,

Thorndyke

Supplies

  • Gallon-sized clear plastic bag
  • Markers
  • Black paper
  • White paper for flashlight
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. First, draw an ocean scene on one side of your bag.
  2. Put the black paper in the bag. Notice that it is harder to see what you drew—that’s the point!
  3. Now you will make your flashlight. Here’s a template you can use or you can design your own. Color in your flashlight, and be sure to leave the beam white.
  4. Cut out the flashlight and put it between your design and the black paper in the bag.

What do you see? Try making a space or jungle scene next time!
