CPL Staff Spotlight: Sean

Meet Sean, Our Human Resources Specialist

What do you like the most about working at CPL? I love helping with library programs, especially any time I get to create something. (Plus, CPL has the BEST collections around!).

My main duties at the library include:

  • Processing the library's biweekly payroll and helping coordinate the hiring and onboarding processes for new employees. I create job postings, review applications, coordinate interviews, and write the letters that make everything "official". Along with the rest of the Business Services Office, I help balance the cash registers and copy card machines, and record the library's day-to-day transactions.
  • I work with all the departments to compile data for the State Aid report and other statistical agencies.
  • I take notes and run roll call votes at the monthly Library Board of Trustees meetings, and write the meeting minutes that later get approved and posted on our website as part of the Open Meetings Act.

My Favorites

Favorite emoji? The sparkle emoji. ✨

Which app do you use the most? Safari. I’m always reading the news or falling down a rabbit hole learning about something new.

Favorite children’s book character? Frog from Frog and Toad (I am of course much more like Toad).

What is the cutest animal you’ve ever seen in person? My cat Pumpkin! When he was a kitten, his tail was so short and stubby that it was a perfect orange equilateral triangle.

Favorite restaurant? Taco Bell.

What is your favorite book/movie/TV show right now?

Fun Facts

What are your hobbies or interests? Baking, cooking, reading, watercolors, walking in the woods. Lord of the Rings, anything Neil Gaiman.

What would your dream birthday be like? Traveling Europe by train! Or maybe going sail boating. Do I have access to a sailboat? Absolutely not.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Teleportation, I could travel every day and still sleep in my own bed.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? I changed my mind too many times to count. The list includes teacher, librarian, engineer, meteorologist, museum curator, pharmacist, chef, art historian, programmer, baker, book publisher... I could honestly keep going for a while.

If you could time travel, what period would you go to? The Mesozoic era, to see what dinosaurs really looked like.
