Alexander Street Press is one of our free streaming platforms. It offers an exceptional collection of classical, jazz and American folk music, as well as some other materials highlighting the arts, humanities and social sciences.
Just search for “Michigan,” and you find results for university band concerts, oral history recordings, and various articles and biographical sketches relating to Michigan’s cultural heritage.
Michigan Authors and Illustrators is a database, hosted by the Library of Michigan, where you can learn about Michigan authors and their works. It’s an excellent tool for students and teachers, as well as those looking to read locally.
If you don’t have a specific author or title in mind, the Advanced Search allows you to browse by genre, age group, author’s residence and more. When you go into an author’s profile, there’s usually a link at the bottom of the page to the MeL listings of that author’s works, so you can see what libraries own their works and request them for interlibrary loan.
Michiganology is a site dedicated to the study and appreciation of Michigan and its history. It includes millions of records chronicling the everyday lives of Michiganders, from local government records, biographies, local stories, field notebooks, map and photograph collections, educational materials and more.
Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal and Michigan News Sources are two resources where you can access local Michigan newspapers from the past to the present. To access the Digital Michigan Newspaper Portal, you will need a Library of Michigan card, which you can get for free online.

Michigan Legislature has tools to help you find and contact your local Representative. Michigan Legal Help has a robust self-help resource library with templates for everything from leases to wills, as well as a lawyer referral tool.
