Hi Kids,
Thorndyke the Bear here. Lately, I have heard a lot of humans talking excitedly about a “Superb Owl” approaching. I had no idea you all liked owls as much as I do!
“How many times will it touch down?” you ask. “How long will it be on the field?” “Will I also see any fowls?” So many great bird questions!
You’ve come to the right place. I know a ton. For instance, did you know owls can rotate their necks 270 degrees? And a group of owls is called a parliament. Really, like a governing body! Did you also know that not all owls hoot? For instance, barn owls hiss. Especially when I get too close. You can find these and other owl facts at audubon.org.
Also, check out michiganaudubon.org to find local field trips, workshops and bird-watching tours. Or, learn more about owls by checking out a book.
Wait, what do you mean you’ve been talking about the “Super Bowl” this whole time? Football? That can’t be true. Then why did I overhear someone mention “calling an audible?” That’s got to be about owl calls, right? Which, if you’re curious, you can hear here.
Well, enjoy watching owls, or footballs or whatever it is you humans do this season. Just remember to have fun.
Bear Hugs,
Thorndyke
