Did you miss storytime? Perhaps it is just one of those days when you need a little boost with your little ones. Fret not. We have gathered some storytime resources for you at home, thanks to our librarians. Follow our steps below or mix and match for the ultimate storytime experience.
Today's Theme: Painting
1. Energize with a Song
"If You’re Ready for a Book" (sing to the tune of "If You’re Happy and You Know It").
If you're ready for a book, clap your hands!
If you're ready for a book, clap your hands!
If you're ready for a book,
Listen up and take a look
If you're ready for a book, clap your hands!
You can also try making up your own verses. For example, you could sing “nod your head,” “touch your nose,” or “touch your toes.”
2. Read a Book About Painting
Painting is full of surprises! In these picture books, you'll explore color, creativity and the joy of making something new. Whether it’s big, bold strokes on a giant mural or tiny, careful details on a canvas, painting is all about creativity and self-expression.
3. Activity: Paint Sensory Bags
Try this no-mess sensory activity to explore color mixing.
Place different-colored paints into plastic Ziplock bags, seal them tightly, and let your children squish and squeeze to blend the colors. Talk together about the new colors that appear as they mix.
4. Sing a Goodbye Song
See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to "Skinnamarink."
