Storytime: Colors

Did you miss storytime? Perhaps it is just one of those days when you need a boost with your little ones. Fret not. Thanks to Librarian Marianne, we have gathered some storytime resources for you at home. Follow our steps below or mix and match for the ultimate storytime experience.

Today’s Theme: Colors

1. Energize with a Song

Start your storytime by singing this hello song (sung to the tune of "London Bridge").

Hi, hello, and how are you?

How are you?

How are you?

Hi, hello, and how are you?

Time for stories!

2. Recite a Colorful Rhyme

Follow along with Librarian Lisa in this video as she demonstrates the rhyme “One Red Balloon”.

3. Read a Book About Colors

In the following list, you can find colorful picture books that are perfect for sharing, from old classics to new arrivals.

When you’re done reading, look around you and see how many objects you can find that are red, blue, green, yellow, and so on. You can do this inside your home or outdoors on a walk.

4. Activity: Mix Colors Together

Put some red paint and some blue paint in a Ziploc bag. Seal tightly, making sure there’s no excess air inside the bag. Place the bag on a flat surface and gently press down to make the red and blue mix together. Talk about what happens. Did you make a new color? What color is it? You can also try this with other colors, such as yellow and blue or red and white.

5. Sing a Goodbye Song

See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to Skinnamarink.
