Did you miss storytime? Perhaps it is just one of those days when you need a little boost with your little ones. Fret not. We have gathered some storytime resources for you at home, thanks to our librarians. Follow our steps below or mix and match for the ultimate storytime experience.
Today's Theme: Canada
1. Energize with a Song
If You’re Ready for a Story (sing to the tune of If You’re Happy and You Know It)
If you're ready for a story, clap your hands!
If you're ready for a story, clap your hands!
If you're ready for a story,
If you're ready for a story,
If you're ready for a story, clap your hands!
You can also try making up your own verses. For example, you could sing “nod your head”, “touch your nose” or “touch your toes.”
2. Activity: Reading a Map
Before you peek at a map, see how many of Canada’s provinces and territories you can name. Afterward, look at a map and see which ones you missed. Can you spot where they are?
Bonus challenges:
- Can you find the province or territory that is the farthest north?
- Which province borders the state of Michigan?
3. Read a Canadian Book
When you think of Canada, maple syrup, hockey and polar bears might come to mind—but there’s so much more to discover. From bustling cities to breathtaking wilderness, and from Indigenous traditions to French and English heritage, these books offer a fun and fascinating journey through the people, places and cultures that make Canada unique. Ready to head north? No passport required!
4. Sing a Goodbye Song
See you next time! Wrap up your storytime and sing along with our librarians to "Skinnamarink."
