Celebrate Read a New Book Month this December by picking up a type of book you have never tried.
If your December isn’t chilly enough, add chills and thrills with a horror book. Modern horror writers have revitalized the genre, but still give readers a good scare. You might not want to read these right before going to bed.
The Last House on Needless Street
Is horror too much for your nervous system? Try a calmer approach with a puzzling classic mystery. With Poisoned Pen Press reissuing little-known authors through their British Crime Classics and Library of Congress Crime Classics series, as well as the mystery maven Otto Penzler releasing a series of American Crime Classics, you won’t run out of reading material.
If you really want uncharted territory, try walking the plank to find a completely randomized read. Come into the library and stand in front of the fiction area. Pick a row, then a range of shelves, then a shelf, then a number on the shelf. For example, go to the fourth row on the right, the second range of shelves, the third shelf down, and pick the tenth book on the shelf. Who knows what you might find!
