The sorter room is our hub for all returning materials and is visible through the glass doors on the way to the Children's Library. Items returned through the outdoor book drop are identified and checked in automatically, the belts and rollers of the sorter then put them in the appropriate bin with other items of same type. This means fewer hands touch items, therefore items typically get back on the shelves faster.
Unfortunately, on rare occasions, an item gets caught and slips down beside the machine or otherwise manages to bypass the check in process. Staff may then return the item to the shelf without realizing its still checked out on a patron's account.
If you're positive you returned an item, but it is still showing on your account, give us a call at 734-397-0999 and let us know. We'll take a look around and see if we can find it.
