Canton Clean-up

As we embark on fall cleanup, regular trash pickup and curbside recycling in Canton, managed by Priority Waste, handles most of our waste disposal needs.

However, sometimes we have something large, unusual or otherwise unfit for the weekly pickup services. If you’re in that situation, look no further; Canton Public Library has the answers you need right here.

First, many bulky items can be placed in your weekly garbage. Up to two bulky items, including appliances and furniture, may be collected if placed alongside your trash cart. Some items will require special preparation for collection; for a full list of guidelines, see the Priority Waste Solid Waste Collection Guidelines and Rules.

Many items that can’t be collected with the weekly pickup can be dropped off during Canton Clean-up events, held at the Priority Waste yard at 39000 Van Born Road.

The tentative schedule for these events in fall 2026 is on September 26 and October 17. These are subject to change, so you should check the Canton Township Government Facebook page or call Priority Waste at 586-228-1200 for up-to-date information.

Materials that can be dropped off at these events include:

• Home electronics
• Motor oil (limited to five 1-gallon containers)
• Latex paint (limited to five 1-gallon containers—no limit on empty paint cans with the lid removed and paint dried out, only accepted on clean-up days)
• Clean antifreeze (limited to five 1-gallon containers)
• Household and car batteries
• Household construction debris
• Household trash
• All single-stream recycling materials (view a list on the Township website)
• Sod and tree branches
• Metal
• Aluminum
• Copper
• Dirt
• Brick
• Concrete
• Yard waste (April through December)

Canton Clean-up events can not be used to dispose of commercial vehicles, dual-wheeled vehicles, trailers with more than one axle, hazardous waste, oil-based stain or paint, or more than three cubic yards of trash.

If you have hazardous waste to dispose of, Canton will hold its annual Hazardous Waste Round-up on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at Canton’s Division of Public Works building (4847 Sheldon Rd).
