Apply for CPL’s Teen Leadership Council

“The Teen Leadership Council (TLC) is a group of dedicated teens who promote an inclusive and supportive library family. Working from Canton Public Library, we create programs in the library, allow for a social and creative outlet for teens, provide resources for others, and foster a better community.”

That is the mission statement of TLC, written by the teens themselves. But what does that actually look like? This past year, our Council...

  • Created interactive displays for the Teen Space in the library, including fun polls and an original holiday Connections puzzle.
  • Planned and facilitated an educational STEAM program, where kids learned about technological advancements made during the Islamic Golden Age.
  • Decorated the Teen Space with designs featuring CPL’s Teen Mascot, Bubbles the Cat.
  • Created a book display for Arab Heritage Month.
  • Had the opportunity to give feedback regarding the upcoming renovation of the Teen Space.
  • Hosted a weekend bingo game for families at the library.
  • Helped design a pirate ship display featuring our mascot, Thorndyke, in the Children’s Library.
  • Assisted with our annual Snow Spree event.
  • Curated booklists featured on our website.
  • Put on an Asian American Cultural Festival in honor of AAPI Heritage Month.
  • Hosted games for high schoolers to de-stress after AP tests.
  • Planned a special all-ages summer program for 62 Days of Summer.

...All while learning project management and leadership skills, earning volunteer service hours, and having fun with new friends.
