Hey Kids,
I’ve noticed humans, especially grown-ups, talk about saving money a lot. I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand money. It seems like a lot of extra work. If I want some berries, I just go eat them off a bush. I don’t give the bush some little bits of paper or metal, or swipe a plastic card through it. You humans are so weird!
But I do understand “saving.” Sometimes, I’ll bury stuff in the ground with leaves on top to dig up later. Lots of my friends do it too. Squirrels save nuts for winter, and beavers save branches. A little at a time each day adds up, and eventually you’ll have a whole feast! You should try it.
Here’s a way to make a piggy bank out of a bottle. You can use it to save money or whatever else you want over time.
Supplies you’ll need:
- A plastic bottle
- An empty toilet paper roll
- Glue
- Pink acrylic paint
- Pink construction paper
- A marker
- Googly eyes
Or, for older kids, check out how to make a wallet out of old mail or a fold-and-sew paper wallet.
Good luck saving up your money in your piggy banks, wallets or under some mud in the ground.
Your friend,
Thorndyke
