Today's Theme: Baseball

1. Energize with a Song

Sing the classic song "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," originally written in 1908.

Take me out to the ball game,

Take me out with the crowd;

Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,

I don't care if I never get back.

Let me root, root, root for the home team

If they don't win, it's a shame.

For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,

At the old ball game.

2. Read a Book About Baseball

Get ready for cheers, high-fives and big swings! These picture books about baseball share silly moments, important lessons and unforgettable games. They’re perfect for kids who love sports—or anyone who enjoys a great story about America's pastime.

3. Activity: Three Little Baseballs

Print out this activity sheet. Cut out the three baseballs and use magnets to attach them to the refrigerator or a cookie sheet. Recite the following rhyme, removing one baseball after each verse.

Three little baseballs

Waiting for a throw

Swing and a miss—

Strike one, here we go!

Two little baseballs

Watching nice and slow

Swing and a miss—

Strike two, oh no!

One little baseball

Hoping for a run,

Swing and a… THWACK!

Right into the sun!

4. Sing a Goodbye Song

See you next time! Wrap up your storytime by singing along with our librarians to “Skinnamarink.”
