Take Me Out to the Ballgame...

The Tigers Home Opener is this coming Friday, April 10th.  Even if you don't have tickets to the big game, you can get into the baseball spirit with a hotdog, popcorn, and a family-friendly baseball movie from CPL.  Some of my favorites are The Sandlot, Angels in the Outfield, and Rookie of the Year.  Batter Up!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

One of my son's favorite books is Diary of a Wimpy Kid.  You can't help but feel sorry for middle schooler Greg who is harassed by his older brother Roderick, teased by his classmates, and has to deal with his younger brother Manny who is always trying to get Greg in trouble.  Greg is an ordinary kid just trying to get through the day without anything bad happening to him.  This is a very funny book and highly recommended for tweens.

Shel Silverstein on a Rainy Morning

falling upOn this rather rainy Friday morning, I try to look for some fun to keep me going during the day. Shel Silverstein's whimsical poetry is just the ticket for escaping the soggy, rainy day  blues. Here's to an afternoon giggle.

"Where is your Christian fiction?"

Many kids have been asking this question this past week. There is not a special area or spine label devoted to Christian fiction, but the library certainly does have lots of books that meet this need.

Mrs.%20Piggle-Wiggle.jpgSometimes I wanted to be really bad so I could visit Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle’s upside-down house, hunt for treasure and get cured by super-smart animals. So celebrate Betty MacDonald’s birthday by reading about some really naughty kids. The Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series and the Mary Poppins stories offer a wealth of mischief. Max from Where the Wild Things Are is another naughty child who will be coming to the big screen in the fall.

Going to the Dogs

Bolt, Beverly Hills ChihuahuaHotel for Dogs.  There have been a lot of family films released with dogs in them lately.  But they've always been a surefire Hollywood hit all the way back to the days of Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.

Do you speak or want to learn a non-English language?

Do you speak a language other than English? Are you studying a language in school? Do you want to learn another language for your own enrichment? If you answered YES to any of those questions, you need to check out the children's international language collection.

Last year we added non-English juvenile feature films and learning DVDs and all languages available in the Muzzy language learning series, and this year we've eliminated the old book/cassette language kits and have updated with book/CD kits.

Thorndyke Thoughts

Hi Kids!  Thorndyke here!  Did you know that today—March 19th –is Absolutely Incredible Kid Day?   And since all the kids who come to the Canton Public Library are absolutely incredible, it’s a very important day to celebrate.   My favorite way?  With a song!  Maybe "Skinnamarink" by Sharon, Lois, and Bram. Another great way is with ice cream!  May I suggest the flavor Bear Claw?  It’s my favorite!   Have a great week, kids!

Bear Hugs!
