Community Literacy Council

The Plymouth-Canton Community Literacy Council  (CLC) is a volunteer, non-profit organization aiming to improve adult literacy in Plymouth-Canton and surrounding areas of Western Wayne County.  The CLC mission is to provide adults with basic reading, writing and communication skills, so they may participate in their community and reach their fullest potential in life.  For over 27 years, the CLC has been offering tutoring services to enhance the lives of individuals in our community.

Pay it forward: a novel by Catherine Ryan Hyde — the moving story of Trevor McKinney, a twelve-year-old boy who accepts his social studies teacher's challenge to come up with a plan to change the world. Trevor's idea is simple: Do a good deed for three people and ask them to "pay it forward" to three others who need help.

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools offers ESL Classes

The Plymouth-Canton Community School District offers English as a Second Language classes for a small fee at the Starkweather Education Center for Alternative and Adult Education. Classes meet four days a week.

2012 Nobel Prize in Literature

The 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Chinese author, Mo Yan. As one of mainland China's best known authors, Mo Yan has created over 10 novels and 80 short stories in his 30-year career. According to The Guardian he is "notable not only for his creative engagement with modern Chinese history but also, more simply, for his dedication to the craft of writing." You can check out his prize-winning works in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or English translation.
