October is National Vegetarian Month

Does the thought of eating meat make you feel just awful? Join me in celebrating National Vegetarian Month, going on now in the month of October. Tween Service Corps October 2012

Are you in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade and looking for ways to fulfill your community service requirement for school? Join us and work as our Tween Service Corps. You can earn one hour of your community service time and also have fun helping out in the Children's Department. Our next date will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Creatapillars

Are you a creative kid? Are you in 2nd through 6th grade? Let your creative side flow in our new monthly program, Creatapillars. This exciting program will alternate between art themed and writing themed activities each month starting with an art themed activity on Monday, October 8, 2012 from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM. World Series 2012

Major League Baseball is jetting toward the World Series faster than vendors can toss hot dogs to the hungry crowd. This year the World Series begins on October 24, 2012, so only a little over a month away. Will the Detroit Tigers make it into the playoffs? Only time will tell. We are one game behind the White Sox, so keep your fingers crossed and check out our awesome books and dvd's hightlighting Detroit's finest. Go Tigers!

Olympics: Gone But Not Forgotten

The 2012 London Olympics by Nick Hunter — Last night, sadly, was the closing ceremonies for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. It was such a spectacle to watch and I have to admit, I may be going through Olympic withdrawal. Are you? Have no fear! We have great books on London, Brazil (where Rio de Janeiro will be the host of the 2016 Summer Games), and the Olympics. Have fun reading and reliving all your favorite things about this year's Summer Games!

DIA Summer Fun!

Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? Well, look no further than your own backyard (well, near your yard, anyway).  The Detroit Insitute of Arts has some great exhibits to see this summer and time is flying by. Plymouth Whalers Collecting Food at Their Saturday, August 4, 2012 Game

Come on out and see your Plymouth Whalers play some awesome hockey on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Not only is this their Alumni skate game, with players coming in from teams all over the country, but the Whalers are collecting canned goods for Gleaners. There are two ways to see the game:  you can pay $10 for a ticket at the door or you can bring 10 cans of food to donate to a wonderful group. For more information, see the Plymouth Whalers website.

Author Donald J. Sobol Dies

Beloved author of the Encyclopedia Brown series, Donald J. Sobol, passed away July 11, 2012. He was 87 years old. His Encyclopedia Brown series debuted in 1963 and has delighted children for decades. Sobol's son has said his father died of natural causes. Mr. Sobol is survived by his wife, sister, three children, and four grandchildren.

Get inspired, Go Wild

Have you earned your Go Wild badge yet? If not, summer isn't over yet--so you still have time. Now that the weather has gotten better, be sure to get out and Go Wild by taking a walk in the woods or at a park, enjoying Art in the Park this weekend, July 13, 14, and 15, 2012 in Downtown Plymouth, or run through the sprinkler to cool off. No matter what you choose to do, Go Wild and have fun!

Farmer's Market Storytime

On Sundays, June 24, July 15 and August 19, CPL staff visits the Canton Farmer's Market to host a storytimes and crafts. The Canton Farmer's Market is open from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Storytimes are at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. For all ages.

Cloth Painting for Tweens

Tweens, get ready to get creative. Join us July 26, 2012 at 2:00 PM for our Cloth Painting Program. You supply the paintable item, for example, shirts, canvas shoes, bags, socks, pillowcases, etc., and we will supply the paint and other fun things to decorate your creations with. Registration begins June 26, 2012 and space is limited. See you there!
