Snack Tales

Kids in grades 1-4, join us for Snack Tales on Saturday, January 26 from 2:00-2:45 PM. You will get a chance to listen to some great stories and cook up a tasty snack. Registration begins December 26. Please indicate any food allergies when registering.

Kids in grades K-4, join us for Snack Tales on Saturday, November 17, from 2:00-3:00 PM. We will read some turkey stories, and you will get to make a special treat. Registration begins Thursday, October 25. Please indicate any food allergies when registering.

Kids in grades K-4, join us for Snack Tales on Tuesday, October 23 from 7:00 to 7:45 PM. We will read some Halloween stories, and you will get to make a special spooky treat. Registration begins Monday, September 24. Please indicate any food allergies when registering.

Snack Tales

What happens when you combine great stories with an easy-to-make treat? You get "Snack Tales!" Join us Saturday, September 8th at 2:00 PM to enjoy a sweet mid-day snack based on a fun story.

Registration begins August 27th at 9:00 AM. Please indicate any food allergies in the notes field when registering. CPL librarians worked hard to tailor this program for a specific age group, so Snack Tales is for kids in grades K-4 only, with a caregiver.

Restaurant Review


Have you been out to a great dinner lately? Did you experience excelent service? Maybe you tried a new restaurant? We want to know. 

Grab a bite at a local Canton restaurant, share your experiences with us and earn your Chow Down badge. Post a restaurant review with the name of the restaurant, when you visited and a breif description of your experience. Include comments about the food, service and ambiance.

Calling All Babies — July

Calling All Babies! If you are two-years-old or younger, join us Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 10:00-10:30 AM, as we explore Yummy Food. We'll have fun learning about all things tasty and getting to play a bit too. Moms, be sure to register your little one beginning June 26, 2012. We look forward to seeing you there!

Chow Down Delights: Trail of Crumbs

Trail of crumbs: hunger, love, and the search for home: a memoir by Kim Sunee — one woman's story of the strength, perseverance, and passion that food brought to her life. At the age of three Kim Sunée was abandoned at a South Korean marketplace by her mother. Left with only a handful of food Sunée survived three days and nights before a she was found by a police officer. Adopted by a family in New Orleans she was one of two Asian children in her community growing up. At 21 she became involved with a French businessman, moved abroad, and gained the title of stepmother to his eight year old daughter. Throughout her journey whenever she felt uneasy, lonely or out of place preparing and cooking gourmet meals brought her comfort and calm.

He examines the relativity of food and proclaims that "one man’s pea is another man’s tripe."

National S'mores Day

Today is National S'Mores Day! Did you know S'mores were invented by the Girl Scouts of America? When marshmallows became popular early in the 20th Century, enterprising Girl Scouts created an easy to assemble (marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers) dessert to enjoy over the campfire.

Weekly Farmers Market Returns May 15th

The 2011 season debut of Canton's Farmers Market is Sunday, May 15, 10:00AM to 2:00PM (rain or shine) at Preservation Park, 500 N Ridge Rd (just 1/3 mile north of Cherry Hill Rd.). The open-air market runs every Sunday until Oct. 16 (except July 3) and features a variety of local Michigan-grown and made foods and crafts. You'll find seasonal produce, farm eggs, natural meats, sauces, pastas, artisan breads and cheeses, honey, plants, fresh-cut flowers, and crafts.

Winter Farmers Market Continues This Sunday

The Canton Winter Farmers Market returns this Sunday, March 13, from 10:00AM-2:00PM, but with a different location due to the soggy weather: Come to historic Cherry Hill School on the Northwest corner of Ridge and Cherry Hill Road at 50440 Cherry Hill Road. Eighteen local vendors will be there this Sunday. Don't miss it!

Pasta Drive

The Farmers Market will continue its pasta drive to help restock the shelves at Open Door Ministry's Food Pantry in Canton during all three Winter Markets. Drop off any boxed, dried pasta at Cherry Hill School during the Market.

Author Bich Minh Nguyen to speak in Plymouth

Author Bich Minh Nguyen, who wrote Stealing Buddha's Dinner will speak at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 17th at the Penn Theatre in Plymouth.

Nguyen and her family left Vietnam in 1975, and relocated to Michigan. Stealing Buddha's Dinner is a memoir of the author's childhood and experiences of assimilation into American culture. This is Nguyen's only appearance in the Detroit area; and her presentation is not to be missed.
