Valentine's Day

Originally a feast day of two Christian martyrs named Valentine, Valentine's Day has changed over time into a more general celebration of love in which cards, flowers and chocolates are often exchanged. If the day puts you in the mood for love, check out this collection. It highlights love letters, famous couples and classic novels. But there's also plenty of love in the movies. For these we've listed some favorite Classic Romantic Comedies, Offbeat Romances and Romantic Dramas. Last but not least, there is a selection of Romantic Music for your listening pleasure.

Trail of crumbs: hunger, love, and the search for home: a memoir by Kim Sunee — one woman's story of the strength, perseverance, and passion that food brought to her life. At the age of three Kim Sunée was abandoned at a South Korean marketplace by her mother. Left with only a handful of food Sunée survived three days and nights before a she was found by a police officer. Adopted by a family in New Orleans she was one of two Asian children in her community growing up. At 21 she became involved with a French businessman, moved abroad, and gained the title of stepmother to his eight year old daughter. Throughout her journey whenever she felt uneasy, lonely or out of place preparing and cooking gourmet meals brought her comfort and calm.

Target Family Reading: Love is in the Air

On Thursday, February 9, from 7:00-7:45 PM, love is in the air! Along with great love stories there will be crafts, a delicious snack and a free book to add to your collection at home. This Valentine's Day themed programming is supported by Target and the Friends of the Canton Public Library.

Valentine Fun

Valentine's Day is coming up and it's a great time to share your creativity and love for your family. Create your own valentine card for those you love or make a yummy treat with your parents. Special creations are a great way to say "I Love You." Don't forget to check out some books on love at the library too.

National Resurrect Romance Week August 9-15th

As we wind down the summer sun, let's take a stroll shall we? This is National Resurrect Romance Week and this week take that certain someone out for a romantic drive, quiet picnic by the lake, or a moonlit walk followed by ice cream at your local ice cream shop. Being romantic doesn't have to have large, sweeping gestures, because romance, after all, is simple, quiet, and knowing. Leave a note in your sweetheart's lunch, pick some wildflowers and surprise that certain someone, watch their favorite movie and not complain about it, bake their favorite dessert or dinner, let your wife hold the remote control, or read each other some of our delicious poetry about love and romance.
