Amazing Race

Dear Sir/Madam: This is my first year as a librarian, and I will be teaching an 8th grade introduction to the library class this May. I am interested in doing an Amazing Race style game with them and saw that you had done one in the past. I would appreciate any specifics you would be willing to share with me. Thank you! Hi Jodi!

Congrats on the new job! The basic idea for our Amazing Dewey Race was that we planned a relatively brief activity that corresponded with one of the ten Dewey Decimal general areas. For example, for the 400s teams had to match antonyms: Cold and hot, fast and slow, etc.. Teams moved through the various stations and the team with the fastest time won.
We took most of the ideas for this program material from the Michigan Summer Reading Manual for 2011: One World Many Stories and tweaked the format to work for our library. Hope this helps! Good luck with the program.
