The Canton Seniors Book Group meets on the fourth Thursday of the every month (except December) from 2:00-3:00 PM in Group Study Room A. Librarians Elaine Skrzynski and Joyce Simowski alternately lead the discussion. No registration required.

New Meeting day for Canton Seniors Book Discussion

New Day. Year round. The Canton Seniors Book Discussion will now meet every month on the fourth Thursday of the month beginning on Thursday, July 26. We will continue to meet at Canton Public Library in Group Study Room A from 2:00-3:00 PM. Every month copies of the upcoming selection will be distributed following the book discussion. If you can't attend the discussion, ask an Adult Reference Librarian at the Help Desk for a copy. Canton Seniors Book Discussion Group will meet on Wednesday, June 27 from 2:00-3:00 PM at Canton Public Library in Group Study Room A. This month we are discussing

Old friends by Tracy Kidder — What is it like to grow old in America? Two men, strangers to each other, are assigned to share a room upon moving into a western Massachusetts nursing home. Kidder spotlights the friendship which blooms between Joe, an irascible 72 year old stroke victim, and gentle Lou, 90 and almost blind, who grieves for his deceased wife, tells rambling stories about his past and worries about Joe. Author Tracy Kidder has won Pulitzer Prizes for fiction and non-fiction.

The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot — Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells-taken without her knowledge-became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first "immortal" human cells grown in culture, they are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than sixty years.

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón — Eleven year old Daniel’s quest through the secrets and shadows of postwar Barcelona for a mysterious author whose book has proved as dangerous to own as it is impossible to forget. He discovers that someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book this author has written.
