Evan O'Dorney is New Spelling Bee Champ!
Scripps National Spelling Bee was held tonight in the Grand Hyatt ballroom in Washington, D.C. In round 13, an 8th grader from Danville, California, correctly spelled serrefine , which means small forceps for closing a wound, to win. Out of 286 other spellers, it was down to an American and a Canadian in the final round. Nate Gartke from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada misspelled, coryza, which means an upper respiratory tract infection. Evan won a trophy and a $35,000 prize, plus a $5,000 scholarship, a $2,500 savings bond and a set of reference works.
