African-Americans have fought in military conflicts since colonial days. However, the Buffalo Soldiers, comprised of former slaves, freemen and Black Civil War soldiers, were the first to serve during peacetime. During the Westward movement these soldiers were responsible for escorting settlers, cattle herds, railroad crews and building the infrastructure needed for new settlements to flourish. Join us April 20 at 7:00 PM as we welcome James H. Mills of the Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Center. Mr. Mills will share the history of these legendary African American U.S. Army regiments.
