Mother Daughter Book Discussion

The Canton Public Library is the recipient of a Giving Hope Women's Giving Circle Grant. Money from this grant is used for this Mother Daughter Book Discussion, a group for girls in grades 5-12 and their mothers or other significant women in their lives. Only the teen or tween needs to register for this program, but you will receive 2 books to read. Registration begins January 8.

Grandparent Fun

Do you watch your grandchildren on a regular basis? Looking for something fun and different to do with them? Want to meet other grandparents who babysit too? The program is for grandparents and their grandchildren. Registration not requied.

Storytimes @ the Canton Public Library

Budget and staffing constraints have forced the library to re-evaluate our storytime offerings. We are able to offer more spaces by holding all of our Family Storytimes in the Community Room. Family Storytimes, which are replacing our age specific storytime, do not require registration. These sessions are suitable for children up to age 5 and offer a variety of activities for the whole family.
Our Baby Storytime does require registration and is suitable for babies up to 18 months. Please, no siblings, so that you may devote your full attention to your baby.

Winter Break Fun

Are you looking for something to do during Winter Break? Come to one of our fun programs! On Tuesday, December 21 from 2:00-4:00PM, play a board game, test your Yu-Gi-Oh! skills or create with LEGO at Board Game Fun!

Winter Holiday Magic

Family Storytime @ Barnes & Noble, Northville

On Monday, November 29, 2010, enjoy a special storytime during our Barnes & Noble Book Fair. Storytimes will take place at Barnes & Noble in Northville, at 11:00-11:30AM or 7:00-7:30PM. Registration is not required.

Storytimes at the Canton Public Library

Storytimes provide opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning. Register up for a Family Storytime today or attend one of our Drop-In Storytimes.

Sing and Sign Class

Parents and children under age five will learn how to sign key words in songs, games and books. Register online beginning Saturday, October 23.

Storytime registration begins Monday, October 25. Storytimes begin the week of November 8. Children must have their own library card to register for storytime.

How to: Register Online for Programs


If you'd like a quick walk-through of registering for programs, just watch the YouTube video above.
  1. Have a Canton Public Library card
  2. Click the link to the Program Calendar
  3. Find the date of the program you wish to attend. Often there are more programs than display by default — click "All" at the bottom of the day to see a full list
  4. When you have found the program you're interested in, hover over the icon graphic to see how many slots are available. If there are open seats, click the icon to proceed
  5. Clicking the icon will take you to a login screen if you are not already logged in. Enter your name and library card barcode, then press the submit button to log in
  6. Review the program information on the registration page. If all the information is correct, click 'Submit' to register
  7. If all has worked properly, you should reach a confirmation page with no on-screen warnings. If you do not reach a confirmation page or are shown an on-screen warning, please contact the library
  8. If you need to register more than one person (more than one library card), you must log out and re-do the process using the other card
If you log in to your patron record, you can manage the programs for which you're registered. If you're registered for programs, there will be a link at the top, near your name and address.

Common Problems

If you get an on-screen warning, there could be several things blocking you from registering:
  • You may be the wrong age for the program. Please check the age requirements and make sure that the library card you are using belongs to the appropriate child
  • You may have already registered for another section of the program. Please check My Account to see if your card is already registered
  • Your card may not be updated. Please visit the checkout desk, or call 734-397-0999 (option #3)

Waiting Lists

We do not maintain waiting lists for programs. However, extraordinarily popular programs tend to have sessions added as necessary. Also, there are some online cancelations, so diligence checking the page can often get you a spot.
