REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR

  • Café Update - The new café operator plans an opening date of May 14th with minor changes such as additional brewer locations and cutting down the wood surround. All changes will be approved by Jean. Jean will send a letter to the present operator Monday.

Upon final approval from the credit union, an ATM from Community Financial will be located in the lobby. The pay phone kiosk has been removed and one pay phone relocated to the wall. Community Financial requested that they be allowed to have twice a year give-aways. Jim Fausone asked that educational seminars go along with the promotion.

The new teen librarians came onboard March 12.
There has been no change in the governor's budget and in lieu of disbanding the co-op suggestions have been made to operate with a half time director among other ideas.
The audit has been completed and the report will be presented at the April meeting.

OLD BUSINESS

  • Landscape Sprinkler/Well - Two filtration system quotations were presented. The first would cost approximately $2700 and require a $20/gallon additive. As we pump approximately 11,000 gallons per day during sprinkler season, this would be costly and if the iron content is higher than 1 part per million would be ineffective. The other filtration system quotation was $8500, requires no additives, but would require filter maintenance.

  • Unfunded Pension Liability Reduction/Retiree Health Liability - Under new accounting rules a valuation will be required next year for the MERS retiree health account. It was suggested we use the same audit firm who performs the actuarial valuation for MERS pension; Gabriel, Roeder, Smith & Company. The Board will request a recommendation from Plante & Moran of where to best invest additional funds.

  • July/August Meeting Dates - It was decided to keep the July/August meeting dates as scheduled.
