Some new photos from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland have just been released. Are you as geeked about this movie as I am? Check out this shot of Johhny Depp as the Mad Hatter. That's not the only book to movie on the horizon: The Princess and the Frog based off E. D. Baker's Frog Princess, and, of course, Percy Jackson and the Olympians both hit early 2010. Next year is going to be a good year....

You can now receive a monthly update of hot new DVDs now on Canton Public Library's shelves or scheduled for release in the near future by signing up for our New DVDs BookLetter.  Every month you will receive an emailed BookLetter featuring new DVDs.  Each entry has a brief description of the movie and a link to our catalog should you want to Request a hold.

Dressing up: Canton women's clothing from 1880-1950

Have you ever wondered what your grandmother or great-grandmother would have worn when she was young? Well, wonder no more. Visit the Canton Historical Museum from June 20th through August 31st to see special occasion dresses from the late 1800s to the 1950s. Check out The Lorax Project. Besides great information about how to protect the forests and other endangered species, you can also play games, look at pictures of different habitats, track the Lorax in different parts of the world and meet friends of the Lorax like lemurs, red pandas and golden lion tamarins all on this website.

There's less government aid for schools so families are faced with paying more and doing less. The Library has the latest financial aid books to help students find funding sources such as Get Free Cash for College.

New Publications For Your Student

College students and parents of elementary, middle and high school students can pick up copies of the Eduguide: Your roadmap to student success in the library's lobby brochure rack. Separate editions, geared to each educational level, offer tips on both helping students succeed in their current scholastic careers and preparing them for the next step on their academic ladder.

Spider-Man Turns 600!

It's hard to believe that it's been almost 50 years since the publication of Marvel Comics' "Amazing Fantasy" #15. In that single issue writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko debuted a creation that would go on to become one of the most recognizable and popular pop-culture characters in the world, the Amazing Spider-Man.

Since his debut all those years ago Spidey has experienced many milestones and on July 15 sees the debut of the biggest publishing event in the character's history, "Amazing Spider-Man" #600. A Leaner FAFSA

Finding the MoneyToday, Education Secretary Arne Duncan plans to announce a leaner and more simplified FAFSA form that should at least bring a little relief to over 15 million families with college-bound students who apply every year. Changes in the form will be in place in time for the start of the 2010-2011 school year. The Library has financial aid books to help navigate through the student loan application process and Finding the Money is one of the newest.

The Canton Public Library is starting a Living Library where patrons can check out "living books" (that would be YOU) for 30 minutes of face-to-face, one-on-one conversation.
