Photo Trek with Rick Lieder

OnTuesday, July 17 at 10:00 AM, join acclaimed photographer, Rick Lieder, as he treks around the library grounds in search of creatures to "capture" on film.  The library will provide disposable cameras or you may bring your own.  Take advantage of this opportunity to learn to "capture" images of your own.  This program is geared to patrons aged 9 and up.  Space is limited, so register today.

Baseball! Monday Movie Madness

Join us on Monday, July 16, for an all day, baseball family movie extravaganza starting at 10:00 AM with a film for our youngest patrons and gradually getting more sophisticated, until the 6:30 PM showing of Moneyball.

Children's Comics are Back!

Children's comics are back now. They are located in the Tween area of the Children's Department by the back window. We have more awesome comics than ever before for you to enjoy — Tiny Titans, Transformers, Sonic, Simpsons, Batman, Archie, and Marvel Adventures to name just a few. Current issues are in red binders and can't be checked out, but past issues can be checked out for one week. Come in and check them out!

Drills This Week

Emergency evacuation drills have been scheduled at the library this week. All patrons will be required to participate in these drills, so be prepared to quickly collect your valuables and exit the building. Safety drills are necessary to keep our staff familiar with proper procedure in the event of real emergencies. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and patience.

Ultimate Contraption

On Wednesday, August 1, 6:30-8:00 PM help build a giant Rube Goldberg machine and film it. Don't know what one is? Take a look here. We'll have tons of wacky supplies. You bring your imagination.  This program is recommended for people aged ten and up.

A big giant Thank You to all the National Honor Society students who made our Homework Help tutoring program a big success again this year. We are also thankful for all who participated and used this service. We were so happy to be able to partner with NHS to provide the service! Look for Homework Help again next school year!

Tween Service Corps August 2012

Are you in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and looking for ways to fulfill your community service requirement for school? Join us and work as our Tween Service Corps. You can earn one hour of your community service time and also have fun helping out in the Children's Department. Our next date will be Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM. The Buzz about The Bee

A new champion speller will be crowned Thursday at the conclusion of the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition in Washington D.C. Don't miss the action starting at 8:00 PM on ESPN. Also, Bee officials announced on Tuesday that a world bee of the English language is in the preliminary planning stages for next year.

Reading Assistance Dogs

Kids and Tweens in grades K-6, improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a dog. Sign up begins at 6:25 PM and is on a first come, first serve basis. Sessions are 10 minutes long.

Join us Saturday, June 23 from 2:00-5:00 PM for our Pokemon Black and White Tournament. Bring your Nintendo DS and your copy of Pokemon Black or White for an epic style poke-throwdown!

CPL at Liberty Fest

Come out and visit the Canton Public Library tent during the Canton Liberty Fesitval on Friday, June 15 from 5:00-8:00 PM. We will have information about our Connect Your Summer reading program and there will be lots of fun stuff to see and do all around Heritage Park including live music, great food and craft tables. Open Chess

Tim Heller, avid chess player, hosts informal open play on the second and fourth Sundays of most months in the Community Room while providing instruction and pointers on improving your game.  Beginners are welcome on June 10 and 24th at 1:00 PM.  The fourth Sunday of each month also includes a tournament by "Library Chess Clubs."  For tournament information and registration, please email clubchess@wowway.com
