Come test your puzzle solving skills with (and against) others in Portal 2 co-op mode on Friday June 28 from 1:00 - 3:00PM. We'll supply the teams; you bring your raw talent. Only the cleverest will survive. Ages 9-17.

Meet a Horse

Canton Public Library is pleased to welcome Jennifer Blades, the Coach of the University of Michigan's Equestrian team and owner of Willowbrooke Farm in Plymouth on Wednesday, August 7, at 10:00 AM. Jenny will bring a very special guest, one of her favorite school horses, Darien. She'll describe the basics of English riding skills and horse maintenance. Darien is a gentle, sweet horse and he loves kids! This is an outdoor event.

Come back in the evening at 7:00 PM to hear the moving and amazing story of JoAnne Normile and how she started Canter, the racehorse rescue group, in Michigan. Normile's story is told through her book Saving Baby: How One Woman's Love for a Racehorse Led to Her Redemption. She will be available to sign copies of her starred Kirkus-reviewed book purchased at the event.

Oldies, but Goodies: Backyard Games

Join us for some old-fashioned backyard games! We'll be behind the library (weather permitting) so kids of all ages can come have some fun. Should we run into bad weather, we'll still have games in the Community Room, so stop by.

National Book Lovers Day Program

Did you know August 9th is National Book Lovers Day? Join us Friday, August 9 from 2:00-2:45 PM for our Family Book Lovers Day Program. We'll have a great time hearing a story, eating a snack, talking about books, and working on a craft.

U-M Museum of Natural History - Fossils

Come join our friends from the U-M Museum of Natural History as we explore the secrets of Earth's history buried underground. On July 12 from 2:00-3:00 PM, we will learn about what fossils are, how they form and what they can teach us. We will even get to dig for our very own specimen!

Summer Tie Dye Fun!

Do you love swirling pops of color? Have you always wanted to make your own t-shirt? Well, come to our all ages Summer Tie Dye Event on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and have a blast tie dying your own clothes! You must bring your own shirts, socks, canvas bags, pillow cases, etc. that you want to dye. See you there!

Movie Mondays: Animal Lover & Love It

Join us each Monday to beat the heat and enjoy fun films in our Community Room! Each week we'll fill the day with films for kids, adults, or the whole family!

Monday, July 15, we will celebrate our furry friends with films that bring out the ANIMAL LOVER in you, and a romance so sweet we guarantee you will LOVE IT. We'll begin our day with the search for our favorite clown fish and end with a heartwarming and bittersweet tale of first love. You may bring pillows, snacks, even your own comfy lawn chairs if you like.

3D Storytelling

On August 7 from 2:00-4:00 PM, local artist and writer, Christina Smith, will teach kids aged 9-12 years old her technique for writing a story, building vocabulary and then using around-the-house items to create a 3D Storybox to show their story visually. Space is limited. Registration begins on May 29.

How to Raise a Butterfly

On July 16 from 7:00-8:00 PM, local expert and butterfly lover, Stephanie Faust will share with us how to find eggs, nurture caterpillars and then once emerged from their cocoons, release butterflies back into the wild. We will also explore how to create the perfect butterfly garden to attract our beautiful fluttery friends.

Traditional Yoga Basics

On Tuesday, June 18 from 4:00-4:45 PM, Thirupu Siva will teach young people from 6-16 years of age the basic asanas, building up to various intermediate poses. Please wear loose fitting clothing and bring a towel or yoga mat to work on. Registration for this program begins on May 29.

Read and Ride with the Wimpy Kid!

Wimpy Kid fans going into grades 3 through 6, come join us for an evening hour of fun. Make a craft, play a game, enjoy a wimpy wonder, and get some car window clings to "Wimpify" your vehicles with your favorite Kinney characters.

Summer Bike Safety Program

As part of our Connect Your Summer reading program Opening Day activities on June 17, we will be hosting a two hour Bike Safety drop in from 2:00-4:00 PM. A representative from the Canton Police department will be here to talk about the rules of the road and staff from the Trading Post will come in to talk helmet safety and fittings, bike inspection and other aspects of riding that will keep you safe this summer. This program will take place in the back parking lot of the library. Ride on in and be well!

Storytime at Canton Farmer's Market

Real Heroes Read Book Talk and Author Visit

On July 2, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, Michigan authors David Anthony and Charles David Clasman will introduce us to their super fun and exciting chapter book series, Heroes A2Z. Set in Traverse City, Michigan, this series follows twins Abigail and Andrew and their baby sister, Zoe as they face exciting adventures, mind boggling mysteries and don't forget the aliens! Books will be available for purchase and authors will be available to sign them, but there will also be free book giveaways, too. So come on in to hear about Superhero kids fighting crime before bedtime.

It has it all...humor, adventure, family, friendship, and stinky shoes.


The Sandlot [videodisc] by Twentieth Century Fox in association with Island World ; a David Mickey Evans film ; written by David Mickey Evans & Robert Gunter ; produced by Dale de la Torre, William S. Gilmore ; directed by David Mickey Evans — If you haven't seen this classic baseball adventure in the 25 years since it came out, you need to rectify it.  A newcomer to town makes friends and faces fears while learning the fine game of baseball on his local Sandlot.
