Special Needs Storytime: Folktale Fridays

Please join us on Friday, November 14 at 4:00 PM in the Community Room for Folktale Fridays. This is a sensory-friendly storytime filled with stories, songs and sign language especially designed children with developmental delays and disabilities. This program has been funded through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant.

2015 LEGO® Dream Vehicle Contest

Young builders, this is your chance to show us your most creative vehicle designs using LEGOs®! It can be anything (car, plane, spaceship, etc.) as long as it can transport someone. This year there are two categories: Motorized and Unmotorized. In each category we will choose winners for the following divisions: k-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-12th grades, plus a Team division. Entries must be dropped off between January 5 - 8. A public viewing will be held January 10 - 11 where patrons will get a chance to cast their vote along with our judges. Winners will be announced at a reception at the close of the contest on Sunday, January 11 at 4:00 PM.

National Day of Writing - Story Cubes

Story CubesKids can celebrate the National Day On Writing on Monday, October 20, 4:00-5:00 pm in the Purple Room, by creating surprising stories with Story Cubes and discovering new ways to generate ideas for creative writing.  Recommended for ages 8-12.  No registration required.

Astute Artistry: Halloween Make-up How-to

Have you ever wanted to look like a zombie?  How about a witch or a princess? What about a beautiful Mexican sugar skull?  Join the highly skilled professionals from Astute Artistry Studios as they help you prepare for Halloween and beyond!  On Saturday, October 25 from 12:30-3:00 PM participants will learn the ins and outs of many different kinds of make up application.  Bring your creativity! This program is designed for patrons aged 10 through adults.  Registration is required and begins on September 25

Families and caregivers are welcome after completing the registration process. This program has been funded through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant.

NHS Homework Help Will Begin October 14th

NHS students are here to provide 3rd-12th graders free homework help. If you're interested in getting tutored:
  • You must be in 3rd through 12th grade
  • If you're under 12, your parent must remain in the library
  • You must bring the assignment and any other needed materials
  • Tutoring is on a first come first served basis
  • Tutoring sessions will be a half an hour

Days and Times

  • Monday from 6:00-8:00 PM by the Teen Desk
  • Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM by the Teen Desk
  • Thursday from 6:00-8:00 PM by the Teen Desk

The first day of tutoring will be Tuesday, October 14th.

Best in Show Dog Show 2014

Register now by returning the waiver form by 6:00 PM September 12 and join us on Saturday, September 13 at 11:00 AM in back of the library under the tent. Space for contestants is limited to the first 25 waivers received but all are welcome to come see the show. This event is fun for all ages! Bring your four-legged best friends and show them off in our contests for: Best Costume, Best Trick, Best Behaved, Best Looking, Best Biggest, Best Smallest and Best in Show. Winners will receive fabulous prizes! Enjoy a free hot dog and pop! REGISTRATION BEGINS MONDAY AUGUST 25th.

Celebrate Someone Special on Grandparents Day

Celebrate National Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 7. Come by the Purple Room between 1:00 and 5:00 PM to make a simple craft to give someone special, or bring your grandparent with you and snap a photo together in front of a Happy Grandparents Day backdrop.

Knit Night - September

Join other handcrafters for an evening of sharing and learning. all ages and stages are welcome at this informal gathering on Monday September 8 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in Group Study Room A. Bring your own project, yarn and needles.

Celebrate National Aviation Day

In 1939, Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated Orville Wright's birthday as National Aviation Day. This celebration of aviation occurs each year on August 19. Connect Your Summer Final Celebration

This year you have read books, completed activity sheets, attended programs and made this summer truly awesome!  But there is one final event you can't miss!  On August 16 we invite you to attend our Connect Your Summer Final Celebration from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. The event will be held in the back yard by the pond and there will be a number of amazing features including:

Humane Society of Huron Valley Wish List Drive

The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) graciously let us film some of their furry friends for our CYS promos and badge videos.  To return the favor we are asking that you help us support the cuddly animals of HSHV by donating to our Wish List drive.  We will have a receiving box near the entrance of the library and will accept donations starting on Thursday, July 17 through the end of the day on Friday, August 1. 

Top items requested by HSHV are:
  • Gently used bath towels, small blankets, and small pet beds that can be washed.
  • Dog and cat food in the original unopened bag within 3 months after the expiration date.
  • Dog and cat food in the original opened bag within 3 months after the expiration date, providing it is free of bugs or rodent waste.
