It's Memorial Day weekend which means it's time for the Annual Canton Cup, the largest soccer tournament of it's kind in Michigan. Over 580 teams from across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois and Ontario compete on soccer fields throughout Canton. More information can be found on the 2009 Canton Cup website and find the new book Outcasts United: A Refugge Team, an American Town by John St. Warren in our collection.
Mark Fidrych was introduced to the Detroit area back in 1976. He was energetic, unique, and talented. Fans everywhere watched his antics on the field from talking to the ball to kneeling down and smoothing out the mound. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1976 and went on to spend his major league career with the Detroit Tigers. Remember Mark Fidrych in his book No Big Deal published in 1977.
Well, hockey fans, the time is drawing near. Regular season play for our Detroit Red Wings ends this Sunday night! Time does fly! However, buckle down, sports fans, as the playoffs are upon us. Enjoy these great books on the Stanley Cup while you wait on the edge of your seats for the playoffs to begin!
The Tigers Home Opener is this coming Friday, April 10th. Even if you don't have tickets to the big game, you can get into the baseball spirit with a hotdog, popcorn, and a family-friendly baseball movie from CPL. Some of my favorites are The Sandlot, Angels in the Outfield, and Rookie of the Year. Batter Up!
If you know of a paintball field location or Website that is worth noting, leave a response so that others will know about it.
Leaving a comment saying "I'd like to play sometime" will also hopefully connect people with other locals who have this interest.
