Celebrate Go Outdoors Month All Summer Long

You can celebrate Get Outdoors Month all summer long. The official celebration takes place in June, but you can find activities to celebrate going outdoors throughout our Connect Your Summer experience. Use library materials to learn a new outdoor sport, plan an outdoor adventure, or just to find a great book to take outside. Share your experience to earn a badge.

During the month of June, check out our Great Outdoors Month display in the Tween Scene (pictured).

Family Fun Day

Family Fun DayDon't forget about Building Bridges Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 22nd from 11am-1:30pm at the Canton Mosque located at 40440 Palmer Rd. Face painting, sports activities, henna, mosque tours, ethnic food, Arab Calligraphy and Q and A with the Imam are some of the highlights of this day. Please RSVP by June 20th. Vaulting on Horseback - POSTPONED due to extreme heat.

VaultingThe riders and horses from Miracle Ranch in Milford will visit and bring Leon, a beautiful white horse, and the riding team of girls from 5 to 20. Equestrian Vaulting is the art of combining gymnastics and dance while standing on the back of a moving horse. It is quite an amazing sight to see. Join us on Wednesday, July 17 at 12 noon behind the library for this unique demonstration. Be prepared to be dazzled.

Meet a Horse

Canton Public Library is pleased to welcome Jennifer Blades, the Coach of the University of Michigan's Equestrian team and owner of Willowbrooke Farm in Plymouth on Wednesday, August 7, at 10:00 AM. Jenny will bring a very special guest, one of her favorite school horses, Darien. She'll describe the basics of English riding skills and horse maintenance. Darien is a gentle, sweet horse and he loves kids! This is an outdoor event.

Come back in the evening at 7:00 PM to hear the moving and amazing story of JoAnne Normile and how she started Canter, the racehorse rescue group, in Michigan. Normile's story is told through her book Saving Baby: How One Woman's Love for a Racehorse Led to Her Redemption. She will be available to sign copies of her starred Kirkus-reviewed book purchased at the event.

Oldies, but Goodies: Backyard Games

Join us for some old-fashioned backyard games! We'll be behind the library (weather permitting) so kids of all ages can come have some fun. Should we run into bad weather, we'll still have games in the Community Room, so stop by.

Batter up!  Baseball is back in town so join us for an entertaining, historical presentation to get us all in the team spirit on Tuesday, April 9 at 7:00 PM. Kerrie Ferrell chronicles her father's career, Hall of Fame catcher Rick Ferrell, and his Detroit Tigers baseball career from 1950-1992.  She will share historical pictures, humorous inside stories and take us all on an entertaining journey through decades of pro baseball.  Tales of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and more will surely entertain.

Zumba

As Canton Township's 100 Days to Health draws to a close, we are pleased to welcome Dede to lead us in one of her outstanding Zumba classes. Come prepared with comfortable clothing, a bottle of water and a towel. Dede will put you through your paces with energetic dance moves. You'll feel the burn and get in the groove on Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 AM.
